Your baby’s development at three months

  • At three months your baby will have much better joint flexibility and will be able to open her fingers and bring her hands together.
  • Some three month olds stop wanting a night feed, but this doesn’t always happen.
  • Her developing senses respond well to stimulation, and you can help her by talking to her and reading her books.
  • As her sense of touch develops she’ll be delighted and intrigued by the feel of new materials such as fur or felt.
  • She also likes being close to you, so touch and hold your baby as much as you can.
  • She may now be able to lift up her head for several minutes while she’s on her back.
  • As her muscles develop, watch out! Her little kicks are getting stronger by the day.
  • By now she’ll be recognising you by both your face and your voice.
  • Encourage her early language development by introducing her to new words and sounds.
  • If you’re in a bilingual home, start using both languages now if you’d like her to be fluent in both.
  • You’ll probably notice your baby is interacting more positively with others – smiling and making cooing noises.
