What if you decide not to give your baby meat or fish?

  • If you’re moving your baby onto a vegetarian diet, it can be harder to supply all the nutrients and energy he needs.
  • This is because your baby needs a low-fibre, high-energy diet. Animal fats found in meat, poultry and fish are an important source of energy.
  • If you’ve decided not to include meat or fish in your baby’s diet, provide other good sources of protein such as pulses or tofu.
  • You can also seek guidance from your GP, Public Health Nurse or a dietitian about good replacement foods for your baby.
